2023 Stubborn Mule - Gear List (12-Hour and 30-Hour)

Full Time Mandatory Team Gear

• Writing utensil
• Water purification method for entire team
• Working cell phone in a water proof or zip lock baggie
• UTM Plotting Tool - 1:24000
• First Aid Kit
• Waterproof map case or other means to keep race materials dry

Full Time Mandatory Individual Gear

(Each team member must have the following at all times)

• Whistle
• Compass
• Headlamp or flashlight ***30-hour Teams only***
• Means to carry at least 50 oz of liquid
• Waterproof jacket with hood (sealed or taped seams; ultra-light, water-resistant 3 oz. jackets will NOT satisfy this requirement)
• Space blanket ***30-hour Teams only***

Mandatory Individual Biking Gear

(Each team member must have the following on all biking sections)

• Mountain Bike (No Cyclocross)
• Front lighting system – must be mounted on handlebars. (Riders may wear headlamps but they must also have a light mounted to the handlebars) ***30-hour Teams only***
• Flashing red tail light
• Bike helmet

Mandatory Paddle Gear

Race management will provide canoes (multi-person teams) or kayaks (solos only), PFDs, and paddles.

Provided canoes or kayaks

PFD (Type I, II, or  III)   per racer

Paddle per racer

Bag or means of securing together your teams personal paddle gear if you choose to bring your own

Glow-sticks and zip ties or other means to securely attach them to racer pfds and boat bow/stern. 1 glow-stick per person, 2 glow-sticks per boat. ***30-hour Teams only***
